The creation and deployment of a brand for journalist and author Rob Boffard.
I redesigned Rob’s website, as well as a set of business cards. Rob wanted a more modern professional feel for the site, and wanted to launch it at the same time his book was announced. He also required a newsletter template that he could edit and send out to an email list on a regular basis.
As a journalist Rob, needed a way to link to his articles where they are published, but ideally wanted to have them sortable, as well as work on his SEO ranking. Above all, he wanted a project database that was easy to maintain and add to. His journalism section was created with this in mind. Once Rob was trained on WordPress, he was pleased with how easy it was to edit, and not having to use any code to get a consistent look and feel for his new website (this had been a particular bug-bear for him).
Social media and email lists
Other considerations included incorporating social media and leveraging his existing audience on those to build a email list for a monthly newsletter. I created a few templates in MailChimp for his use and incorporated a sign-up form which links back to the MailChimp list. Social media follow and share buttons are include on his website. Rob is very active on Twitter, and a Twitter feed has been included on his home page. Additional considerations had to be taken, as Orbit – Rob’s publisher – needed to sign-off on the website as well. This involved liaising with his editor at Orbit and incorporating their feedback. Once the website and email templates had been signed off we worked on creating a business card was informed by the newly created identity of the website. See Rob Boffard’s website
